Health issues software engineers face

Health is wealth, is a popular saying related to health. Health is a combination of a person’s physical and mental state. A Software engineer is responsible for designing, building and maintaining software products such as web-based and mobile-based applications, games, productivity tools, etc. a software engineer is also a human being and must have sound health to carry out his/her duties responsibly. 
A software engineer while carrying out his/her duties i.e completing various tasks for a project with specific timing tend to face some health problems, Such as:

  • Neck and back pain due to continuous sitting on desks while working on the computer for long hours.
  • Eye pain or blood-shot eye due to staring continuously at the computer screen.
  • Spine problems due to sitting on a desk for long durations.
  • Insomnia due to working on the computer for long hours.
  • Headache due to long hours of work and exposure to the screen for a long time.
  • Increase in weight due to sitting in a desk causing inactivity.
  • Depression and stress due to an increased amount of work and therefore the need to work overtime.
  • Improper blood circulation in the body due to staying static for a long period of time.
  • Risk of bacterial infection caused due to dirty tech tools.
  • Laziness due to inactivity.
  • Reduced vision or gradually reducing eyesight due to continuous exposure to computer screen

Some simple steps in having good health as a software engineer

  • Get enough sleep.
  • Take the eyes away from the screen during intervals to prevent eye strain.
  • Regular exercise i.e walking, cycling, running, jogging, etc
  • Good food.
  • Drink liquids especially water.
  • Get a good work desk and chair.
  • Wipe tech tools from time to time.

The mental state of an individual is really key in making progress in one’s career as much as the physical state. A software engineer’s mental state needs to be a very good state to tackle challenges and solve them.
